I once again placed the wedge into the split to hold open the jaws. I would take the longest thorns first. Working from the end of the spear and back toward the split. I would drive the longest thorns through the holes I had drilled. Again, I used the rock to hammer the thorns in. As the split got narrower I would use shorter thorns. I repeated the process on the other side.

Maria had watched and started her own before I finished. I then took the hollowed out 550 cord and wrapped the wedge in place. Using the same cord, I then wrapped it in a spiral down each side of the jaws. The purpose being to cover the back of the holes I had driven the thorns into. If one gets broken, then I would just slide the cord over exposing the hole, and drive a new thorn in to replace the broken one. The fish spear was finished.
